Rachel Fox has lived in Port Washington since she began working at the Library in 1987. She started as an intern, was hired as a librarian upon receiving her master’s degree in 1989, and became Director of Children’s Services in 2001. Rachel received her undergraduate degree in Art Education with a minor in Graphic Design from Adelphi University and attended Queens College for her master’s degree. Rachel belongs to the Nassau County Library Association and served twice as president of the Children’s Services Division of that organization. She is also a member of the Public Library Association and the American Library Association and has served on committees for ALA as well.
Under Rachel’s leadership the Children’s Department has added many innovative programs for its youngest patrons and their grownups. She feels privileged to work with a team of amazing individuals who give 110 percent and enjoys interacting with people both young and old who come in to use the library.
Rachel believes in giving back to the community where she lives and volunteers for many organizations including the Port Washington Community Chest, the Port Washington Bandshell Committee, Residents Forward, and Be the Rainbow. Rachel loves being outdoors, and when not at work, you can often see her running, walking, swimming, bicycling, or gardening.
